U.S. Rep. Schneider Talks Gun Violence At Wheeling Summit
U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider (D-10th) will be in Wheeling today (Thursday) for a roundtable discussion on gun violence.
In the wake of the recent Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings in Connecticut, President Barack Obama put forward a proposal to prevent future mass shootings. Congress is expected to take up the president’s gun control proposals in this legislative session.
Among those invited to participate in the meeting are Wheeling Police Chief William Benson, North Chicago Mayor Leon Rockingham, Mt. Prospect business owner and gun owner Skip Roberson, gun violence victim family member and Million Mom March Illinois Chapter leader Jennifer Bishop Jenkins, Brady Campaign Illinois (a gun control advocacy group) board member Tom Vanden Berk, National Alliance for Mental Illness of Cook County Executive Director Nancy Carstedt and Family First Center of Lake County Executive Director Evelyn Chenier.
In the Journal-area, the 10th Congressional District includes parts of Wheeling, Des Plaines, Niles, Mt. Prospect, Glenview, Buffalo Grove and Arlington Hts.
