Rep. Schneider Meets Mikva Challenge Students
The Chicago-based Mikva Challenge has brought 14 civics-minded Illinois high-school students—chosen either through essays or community service—to the nation’s capitol for Inauguration weekend, and today, U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) met with and welcomed the group.

“It's a great honor to be following in Congressman Ab Mikva's footsteps representing the Tenth District of Illinois, and so it was a special privilege to meet with the students involved with Mikva Challenge here in Washington,” said Schneider. “It’s truly inspiring to see so many young people interested in government and committed to the idea of public service, and it gives me hope about the future and motivation to do whatever I can to help these kids and future generations succeed.”
The Mikva Challenge was started 15 years ago as a tribute to former Illinois Tenth Congressional District Representative Abner Mikva to encourage low-income Chicago-area youth to become more active in politics and public service. Abner Mikva has served as a judge and White House counsel in addition to being the last Democrat to represent the Tenth District before Schneider.
