10th News: Neighbors Helping Neighbors
While I normally use this space to talk about my work in the Tenth District, today I want to shine a light on the work of one of the great organizations in our community.

It’s been nearly 4 months since the horrific mass shooting at the Highland Park Independence Day Parade. We have carried the memories of the seven people murdered and prayed for the recovery of the dozens wounded and the entire community traumatized that day. It’s been both remarkable and incredibly inspiring to see the strength of our community and the generosity of individuals—here at home and across the country—in our moment of need.
A reflection of the strength and generosity was on display today as the Together Highland Park Unidos committee shared that their July 4th Highland Park Shooting Response Fund raised and distributed $5.8 million. 100% of the funds collected were distributed to victims of the mass shooting and nonprofit organizations providing mental health and other services to the community.
I am incredibly proud of the Highland Park Community Foundation’s work in establishing the Together Highland Park Unidos committee to create and manage the July 4th Highland Park Shooting Response Fund. Its ability to coordinate the receipt of financial gifts from several people and organizations and translate them into gifts of support for the victims is impressive. When we are united as a community, there is nothing we cannot do, and this is an excellent example of that. I sincerely hope this support will positively impact the lives of victims, and I thank every single person working with the Highland Park Community Foundation for their service and dedication.
In more mundane news, I hope you had a nice Halloween weekend. As I traveled around the district, I loved seeing the many different traditions surrounding the holiday expressed in front of people’s homes, at community gatherings, and on social media. And I loved seeing the many different costumes of the young people knocking on my door.

AROUND THE DISTRICT
Lake Forest College Presidential Inauguration

It was an honor to attend the inauguration of the fourteenth president, and first female president, of Lake Forest College, Dr. Jill M. Baren. I congratulate her on this significant accomplishment and look forward to working together. Lake Forest College is a key stakeholder in our community, attracting students to our district to learn and leading them to local employment where they will contribute to and grow our economic diversity and strength. I don't doubt that President Baren knows the importance of Lake Forest College to our district.

At the inauguration, I also had the pleasure of meeting alumni Cook County Commissioner Bill Lowry and Board of Trustees Chairman David F. Gorter. Seeing both gentlemen return for the inauguration was a great example of the lifelong relationship that students build with their schools.
Alderman Carl Evans' Halloween Celebration

I had a wonderful time in North Chicago at Alderman Carl Evans' Halloween Celebration. He held a costume contest where I saw some great costumes! It's always great to see community leaders working to unite their neighbors.
Speaking at the Jewish Federations of North America General Assembly
I was honored to join good friends—David Makovsky of the The Washington Institute for Near East Policy; Michael Herzog, Israel's Ambassador to the U.S.; Ed Royce, former Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee; Mira Resnick, Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of State—for a discussion on issues in the Middle East and around world.

The occasion was the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) General Assembly taking place this week in Chicago. (This was the first in person GA in three years!) We held a thoughtful conversation on a wide range of topics, including the role of the United States and Israel in navigating today's complex global challenges, confronting Iran and preventing Iran from ever getting a nuclear weapon, and dealing with the impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

College of Lake County’s Advanced Technology Center is Open!

Earlier in October, I visited College of Lake County’s (CLC) Advanced Technology Center to kick off the manufacturing month with the Illinois Manufacturers Association. At the time, I shared my excitement for the facility filled with state-of-the-art equipment to give students a hands-on learning experience. I am happy to share that the facility is open and serving students, demonstrating that the future of manufacturing is happening here in Lake County! If you’d like to read more about all the great things happening at the CLC’s Advanced Technology Center, click here.
WHAT’S HAPPENING IN WASHINGTON
Supporting National Veterans Small Business Week
This week, I introduced a bipartisan resolution with my colleague Rep. Jason Crow (CO-06) supporting “National Veterans Small Business Week,” celebrating the business contributions made by our nation’s veterans. National Veterans Small Business Week falls on October 31st through November 4th this year and serves as an opportunity for the Small Business Administration (SBA) to celebrate veteran-owned businesses and host events for veteran entrepreneurs. According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2019 Annual Business Survey, 5.9% of all businesses in the United States are owned by veterans, and they employ approximately 3.9 million people.
The contributions that veterans make to the strength and success of our nation extends beyond their service in our armed forces to the many valuable skills and entrepreneurial ideas they bring to the table. Recognizing and promoting veterans’ success in entrepreneurship is key to helping our communities grow and flourish economically. I thank my colleague, Rep. Jason Crow, for joining me in working to honor and improve opportunities for veterans nationwide.

Four-Year Anniversary of the Tree of Life Synagogue Shooting in Pittsburgh
Last Thursday marked four years since a hate-fueled gunman murdered 11 worshipers at the Tree of Life Synagogue simply because they were Jews. It was the worst antisemitic attack in our nation’s long history.
Antisemitism is on the rise around the world and especially here at home. We best honor the memories of those murdered in hate by standing up to hate, bigotry, racism, and, yes, antisemitism whenever and wherever it raises its vile face. We cannot remain silent.
May the memory of those 11 beloved souls be a blessing to us all and may all of us bless them with our actions and words.

IN CLOSING –

This week I’m resuming the introduction of my staff in Washington DC by having you meet my legislative team. My legislative team helps me keep track of the legislative schedule, studies issues facing the Tenth District and makes relevant policy recommendations and analyzes the bills I vote on in Congress. They also help me prepare for meetings with stakeholders and help draft the legislation that I introduce. My legislative team is crucial to ensuring that I most effectively prioritize the interests of the Tenth District while I represent you in Washington.
My legislative team is currently led by Tommy Brown, my Legislative Director, who works with my Senior Legislative Assistant, Chelsey Rice-Davis; Acting Press Secretary and Legislative Aide, Madeline Flamm; and Legislative Correspondent, Ethan Gunnlaugsson. Each team member brings a great set of skills and knowledge to the team that ensures the legislation being passed in Washington is helping our district succeed.
Stay strong, stay safe, stay healthy.
Sincerely,

Bradley S. Schneider
Member of Congress
