SCHNEIDER BLASTS REPUBLICAN FUNDING BILL THAT HURTS FEDERAL AGENCIES, OUR MILITARY, AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, released the following statement after the House voted to abandon efforts to pass FY2027 appropriation bills in a timely manner and instead use a short-term extension of FY2026 funding that would hurt our federal agencies, military, and local governments: 
 

“House Republicans are once again kicking the can down the road rather than responsibly funding the federal government on time. There are still more than ten weeks left for Congress to do the work necessary to draft and pass funding bills before the start of the new fiscal year on October 1st.  
 

“Republicans are effectively asking for an early extension on their homework instead of hunkering down and getting the assignment done. Speaker Johnson and House Republicans are simply not interested in doing the hard work they were sent here to do.  And they are not just asking for an extension — they also want more authority for DHS Secretary Mullin to move more money to Customs and Border Patrol! 
 

“Pushing a hastily drafted continuing resolution to the floor is not responsible governing. This stopgap plan wreaks havoc on federal agencies, our military, and local governments that need both clarity and certainty to plan their annual budgets.
 

“So, while many American families feel like they are drowning, struggling to pay their monthly bills and sensing the American dream is slipping from their grasp, Republicans are rushing to start their summer vacation. Congress needs to finish the work we are sworn to do. As much as I love being home and meeting with people across my district, Speaker Johnson needs to keep Congress in session until the government is fully funded. The American people deserve nothing less.”
