Today, Congressman Brad Schneider met with local federal workers negatively affected by the government shutdown, including many who are working without pay or have been furloughed.

The meeting included residents employed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and Customs and Border Patrol (CPB), as well as representatives of the American Federation of Government Employees  (AFGE) and National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA).

“Federal workers and their families are bearing the brunt of President Trump’s decision to shut down our government,” said Schneider. “This morning, I heard from members of our community who are now working without pay or have been required to abandon important projects to enter unpaid furlough. Some are struggling to make ends meet and all are concerned by the prospect of a prolonged shutdown. These are the men and women who help keep our food and flights safe, environment healthy, financial markets fair, and borders secure. They are our neighbors, not pawns for the President’s political battles. President Trump should take yes for an answer and accept the bipartisan legislation the House has passed to re-open our government. Then, when our government is re-opened, we can have an honest, open debate about the best way to secure our border.”
