Statement on U.S.-Israel Relationship
Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the following statement:
“Claiming that U.S. support for Israel is a function of political donations rings of classic and abhorrent anti-Semitism. And it could not be more wrong. The truth is the long standing, bipartisan support in Congress for the U.S. - Israel relationship is based on a bedrock of mutual strategic interest and shared democratic values.
“The United States has no better ally in the Middle East, and perhaps the world, than the democratic, Jewish state of Israel, which is why this special relationship is so long supported by overwhelming majorities of the American people on both sides of the aisle.
“Criticism of Israel, or any ally, can be at times fair and appropriate, but trafficking in hateful tropes and dog whistles is dangerous and must be called out.
“As elected leaders, we have a responsibility to speak out against intolerance in all forms, whether it be racism, xenophobia, homophobia, Islamophobia or anti-Semitism. Intolerance, regardless of the source or target, is always wrong.”
