Bringing Down Health Care Costs for Illinois Families

Tune in: WGN report on New Dems Health Care Action Plan
Every American deserves quality, affordable health care from providers they trust when and where they need it. But that’s not the reality for too many families right now. Premiums are rising, prescription drugs cost too much, and access to doctors and hospitals—especially in rural and underserved communities—is getting harder.
Despite what some of my Republican colleagues say, the health insurance hardships Americans are facing this year are not happening by accident. The affordability crisis was created by President Trump and Congressional Republicans policies and actions—including their $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid, and their refusal to work with Democrats to extend subsidies for people buying individual insurance through the ACA marketplace. The Republican agenda threatens the viability of rural hospitals and nursing homes, and spreads dangerous misinformation that makes us all less healthy.
Families deserve better.
As Chair of the New Democrat Coalition, a group of 115 moderate Democrats in the House, I was proud to join Vice-Chair and fellow Illinois Rep. Nikki Budzinski and members of our Healthcare Working Group to release our New Dem Health Care Action Plan, a roadmap to lower costs, expand access to care, and make sure Americans have accurate,
The plan focuses on three things:
• Making care affordable by strengthening the ACA, ending surprise billing, increasing transparency, and lowering prescription costs.
• Making care accessible by protecting Medicaid and Medicare, supporting rural health care, and safeguarding reproductive health.
• Making care accurate by fighting misinformation and restoring science-based research and public health.

I’m proud to lead New Dems as we work to deliver the affordable, accessible, high-quality care Illinois families deserve.
Stay healthy,
