Our thoughts are with the people of Texas and Florida as they rebuild from the destruction of the recent hurricanes. There is no denying that our planet is getting hotter and the destructive intensity and frequency of severe storms is increasing. Climate change is a real and present threat and I am committed to addressing it in every way I can. This past week, I joined with colleagues in the House and Senate to introduce a bill to ensure the United States is studying and preparing for the effects of climate change on public health.
It was another busy week in both Washington and at home. Please read on for photos from our recent Job and Resource Fair in North Chicago and an invitation to our "Bike the Tenth" event – a 16-mile loop ride through the District next Saturday. Hope you'll join us!
ADDRESSING THE EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE
Last week, I partnered with Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) and Matt Cartwright (D-PA) to introduce legislation that will help improve America's public health response to climate change. The Climate Change Health Protection and Promotion Act supports research, monitoring, and preparation in the health sector and by developing a national action plan through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
From increasingly destructive storms to more severe air pollution and water-borne diseases, understanding the public health risks of climate change and preparing our health system to respond is a matter of critical strategic importance. As we confront the acute devastation of the recent hurricanes in Florida and Texas, we must also contend with the longer-term threats to our health and wellness posed by a changing climate.

YOU'RE INVITED: BIKE THE TENTH
This Saturday, I'm inviting you to join me on a bike ride through the Tenth District. This is an opportunity to share your thoughts and learn about my work in Congress during an easy 16-mile ride. I've enjoyed hearing from constituents and answering your questions at more than a dozen town hall-style "Congress on Your Corner" events this year, and with this ride, we've decided to try something new!
The ride begins and ends at the Round Lake Beach Metra station on Saturday, September 23 at 9:00am.
During the ride, we'll stop by Something's Brewing Café in Grayslake for refreshments and a mini-town hall, as well as visit the Round Lake Public Library during the library's 45th anniversary celebration. Non-bikers are invited to join at these two stops.
Learn more about the ride, view the route map, and RSVP to attend on our Eventbrite page.
NEIGHBORHOOD OFFICE HOURS
Our office hosts frequent Neighborhood Office Hours for constituents to more easily meet with caseworkers and staff to discuss any federal issues that they may have and learn more about services our office can provide. We're here to help if you have issues with Medicare, Social Security, the Veterans Administration, immigration and more.
This week, we'll be in Mt. Prospect, Gurnee, and Northbrook. Check out the full schedule on our website and come meet with us when we're in your community!
