Newsletter: Bipartisan Legislation to Help Grieving Parents
**Sign up for my email newsletter now so you don't miss any updates in the future!**
It's been another active week in Washington and back home in Illinois's Tenth District. Here are ways I'm working for you and your family.
Bipartisan Legislation to Help Grieving Parents
The death of a child is a loss like no other, yet current law leaves no time for employees to grieve and begin the recovery process.
Last week, I was proud to join Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) and a bipartisan group of members to introduce the Sarah Grace-Farley-Kluger Act. This legislation would amend the Family and Medical Leave Act to permit employees to take the unpaid time off they need to care for their families and heal following such a tragic loss.

Standing Up for the Great Lakes
The Great Lakes are one of our most magnificent natural wonders and most important natural resources. Unfortunately, President Trump has recklessly proposed completely eliminating the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) and its vital work cleaning up the waters, controlling invasive species, restoring habitats and reducing run-off.
I am proud to continue my work championing a vibrant and healthy Great Lakes region. To celebrate Great Lakes Day, I used my time on the House floor to speak in defense of the GLRI.

Listening to You on Health Care
We should all be concerned by the nonpartisan's Congressional Budget Office's recent analysis estimating that under the congressional Republican's latest health care repeal plan, 24 million fewer Americans would have health insurance and costs would rise for working families, especially for people ages 45 to 64.
It's frustrating that President Trump, Speaker Ryan, and my GOP colleagues are pushing this massive and complex legislation forward without even a single hearing on its impact. That's why last week, I joined fellow House Democrats at our own hearing on the effects of the "American Health Care Act."
Thank you to everyone who has contacted our office to share their opinions about this legislation. Your feedback is extremely important!

Remembering the Holocaust
This week, I was extremely honored to be one of five Representatives selected to join the United States Holocaust Memorial Council, which oversees the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington.
Preserving the memory of the victims, including six million Jews and so many others lost in the Holocaust, and advancing understanding of the Holocaust and its historical context are vitally important tasks, perhaps never more important than at this historic moment. I look forward to working on the Council to support the Museum's critical work ensuring we never forget, seeking to always prevent the horrors of genocide, and always recognizing the inherent dignity of all people.
