**Sign up for my email newsletter now so you don't miss any updates in the future!**
November 1 is a big day as the annual open enrollment period for health care insurance begins. If you purchase your own health insurance, it's important to know the available time for open enrollment is shortened this year. Please read on to ensure you're prepared to buy or make changes to your plan for 2018.
This newsletter also includes details on legislation passed in the House last week to crackdown on Iran's destabilizing activities, as well as an invitation to our upcoming Veterans Day weekend breakfast honoring those who served.
OPEN ENROLLMENT FOR HEALTH INSURANCE STARTS WEDNESDAY
For most people, the open enrollment period is your only chance to pick or make changes to the health insurance that works best for you and your family for the next year. For 2017, open enrollment lasts from November 1 to December 15.
You can find plans with no-cost preventative care – like flu shots and mammograms. You may also be eligible for help – last year 8 in 10 people qualified for financial help to make their monthly premiums more affordable.
Make sure you're prepared for the start of open enrollment by reviewing this Healthcare.gov checklist.

CRACKING DOWN ON IRAN
Last week, the House passed new sanctions on Iran's ballistic missiles program, as well as legislation that will limit the ability of Iran's proxy, Hizballah, to finance terror and recruit followers.
The near unanimous bipartisan vote shows the United States will continue to hold Iran accountable for their destabilizing activities and support for terrorist organizations. These measures are an important step to pressure the banks, companies, and individuals that are supplying and financially supporting Iran's missile program and terrorist proxy groups.
I'm pleased I could contribute to this legislation with amendments to strengthen our understanding of the foreign and domestic supply chain that advances Hizballah's domestic missile capabilities, as well as to determine if travel restrictions on specific key Iranian operatives have been violated.
Learn more about this legislation and my included amendments on our website.
YOU'RE INVITED: VETERANS BREAKFAST
This Veterans Day weekend, I'm hosting a breakfast to honor those in our communities who served, and share some of the ways my office and local veteran organizations can be of assistance.
The breakfast, which is free and open to all veterans in Illinois's Tenth Congressional District, is organized in cooperation with the Student Veterans Club of CLC.Representatives from the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center, Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, and other local veteran assistance and employment organizations will also be on-site to meet with attendees and discuss the services they provide.
Learn more and RSVP to attend the breakfast here.
NEIGHBORHOOD OFFICE HOURS
Our office hosts frequent Neighborhood Office Hours for constituents to more easily meet with caseworkers and staff to discuss any federal issues that they may have and learn more about services our office can provide. We're here to help if you have issues with Medicare, Social Security, the Veterans Administration, immigration and more.
This week, we'll be in Lake Bluff. Check out the full schedule on our website and come meet with us when we're in your community!
WEEKLY WRAP-UP
Speaking out against the irresponsible budget passed by the House last week. Financing tax cuts that overwhelmingly benefit those at the very top by ballooning our nation's debt by a further $1.5 trillion is exactly the wrong approach. We need bipartisan, fiscally responsible tax reform. Click the above image to watch the floor speech.
Honored to welcome to Ret. Major General James T. Jackson, director of The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration to Capitol Hill last week. This flag is now proudly displayed at our office. As part of the Commemoration, we hosted a ceremony honoring Vietnam veterans in Mundelein earlier this month, and will be hosting a second event in Waukegan on November 10. Learn more here.
