This past weekend we observed Veterans Day throughout the district. I had the honor to personally thank area veterans at events in Grayslake, Waukegan, Fort Sheridan, and Highland Park. This day is a time to salute their service, and remember that the liberties and freedoms we enjoy as Americans were made possible by their sacrifice. It's also a reminder of our responsibilities to them in return, and our duty to continue working to improve the health care services and employment opportunities they have earned.

This week is gearing up to be an active one in Washington. Attorney General Jeff Sessions will appear before the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday amidst new revelations of contact between the Trump campaign and Russia. The House is also preparing to vote on the GOP tax reform proposal. If you have opinions about either of these items, or another issue, I encourage you to share it, either by sending me an email or calling our office at (202) 225-4835.

HONORING TENTH DISTRICT VETERANS

On Friday, we kicked off Veteran's Day observance with more than 150 area veterans at a breakfast in Grayslake. We recognized those in our community who served, and shared some of the ways my office and local veteran organizations can be of assistance. The breakfast was organized in cooperation with the Student Veterans Club of CLC. Representatives from the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center, Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, and other local veteran assistance and employment organizations were also on-site to meet with attendees and discuss the services they provide.

Following the breakfast in Grayslake, we moved to Waukegan to honor more than 65 veterans of the Vietnam War as part of the ongoing national 50th Anniversary Commemoration. This emotional event was a long overdue opportunity to thank these veterans for their service.

We're planning another Commemoration Ceremony for Spring 2018 for those who could not attend either our Mundelein or Waukegan ceremony this fall. If you're a Vietnam EraVeteran, you can register now and be one of the first invited.

PREPARING FOR AG SESSIONS TESTIMONY

Today, Attorney General Jeff Sessions will appear before the House Judiciary Committee. I have serious questions about his changing story of contact between the Trump campaign and Russia, and I hope he will use this opportunity to finally set the record straight. Getting to the bottom of this issue is fundamental to protecting the integrity of our elections in the future.

I discussed this with John Berman on CNN yesterday morning. (Click the above image to watch video).

While we investigate the actions of Russia, we cannot take our eyes away from the misguided Department of Justice policies that are affecting people's lives every day. From supporting discriminatory voting laws to restricting LGBTQ rights and targeting immigrants, the Department of Justice's actions under the Trump Administration demand our scrutiny.

NEIGHBORHOOD OFFICE HOURS

Our office hosts frequent Neighborhood Office Hours for constituents to more easily meet with caseworkers and staff to discuss any federal issues that they may have and learn more about services our office can provide. We're here to help if you have issues with Medicare, Social Security, the Veterans Administration, immigration and more.

This week, we'll be in Highland Park, Des Plaines, Grayslake, Mundelein, Libertyville, Glencoe, and Lake Forest. Check out the full schedule on our website and come meet with us when we're in your community!
