With Congress not in session because of the holidays, I've enjoyed the opportunity to meet with neighbors in communities across the Tenth District. Read on for a summary of some of the highlights over the past week.
Tenth Town Hall Event So Far This Year
We held our seventh Congress on Your Corner In Libertyville on Saturday. Like previous meetings in Vernon Hills, Northbrook, Deerfield, North Chicago, Grayslake, and Wheeling, it was a lively event with great questions from the audience. So far, more than 1,000 people have joined me in these conversations to talk about the issues and share their thoughts.
In addition to the local town halls, we've held three large telephone town halls giving me the chance to talk with Tenth District residents while I'm working in Washington. These calls have reached almost 8,000 constituents, expanding our conversations even further.
Stay tuned to our website and social media accounts for more upcoming events.
Op-Ed on U.S. Missile Strike in Syria
I was honored to have an op-ed published in the Chicago Tribune on Friday in which I outlined my position on Congress making its voice heard on President Trump's use of military force.
I supported the limited action against the airfield from which Assad's air force launched the chemical attack because it sent a clear and proportionate message that such use of chemical weapons will not be tolerated.
But going forward, it is imperative that Congress and the American people have their voices heard. Any further U.S. military action must only be undertaken with the formal authorization of Congress, and after full and complete deliberation.
The full op-ed is available online. Read it now!
Education Tour of the Tenth District
Last week, I also had the opportunity to visit four different schools across the Tenth District in the course of one day to speak with students about my work in Congress, and yesterday I also spoke at Libertyville High School. At all of these stops, I was so impressed by the substance and maturity of the questions from our young people. Their interest in topics from immigration reform to climate change to foreign affairs is a huge credit to their teachers and parents.
Thank you to Caruso Middle School in Deerfield, Lake County High Schools Technology Campus in Grayslake, Gemini Junior High School in Niles, the Deerfield High School Israel Club, and the Libertyville High School AdvoCats for hosting me!
Neighborhood Office Hours
As a reminder, our office holds frequent Neighborhood Office Hours for constituents to more easily meet with caseworkers and staff to discuss any federal issues that they may have. We're here to help if you have issues with Medicare, Social Security, the Veterans Administration, immigration and more.
