Pelosi to lead delegation to World Holocaust Forum in Israel

January 20, 2020

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will lead a congressional delegation to Israel for the World Holocaust Forum's commemoration ceremony at Yad Vashem, joining dozens of world leaders traveling to Jerusalem this week.

The delegation, which includes Reps. Nita Lowey (D-NY), Eliot Engel (D-NY), Joe Wilson (R-SC), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), Ted Deutch (D-FL) and Brad Schneider (D-IL), will first travel to Poland, where they will visit the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

Lowey, Engel, Schultz, Deutch and Schneider are cosponsors to the Never Again Education Act, which would allow the Department of Education to authorize grants for Holocaust education. The bill currently has 298 cosponsors.

The congressional delegation will meet with Knesset speaker Yuli Edelstein.

Vice President Mike Pence and White House senior advisor Jared Kushner will also attend the event as representatives of the Trump administration. The two are expected to hold meetings with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
