January 26, 2018

Resolution highlights growth and transformation of the Republic of Korea (South Korea) and its significant contributions to the international community.

Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) announced the introduction of a bipartisan congressional resolution recognizing the growth and transformation of the South Korea. The resolution was introduced ahead of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games, which begin on February 9, 2018 in Pyeongchang, as well as the XII Paralympic Winter Games, which begin on March 9, 2018.

"Last year, I had the opportunity to visit South Korea for the first time and see firsthand the important economic, security, and cultural bonds that tie our two nations together," said Schneider. "As they prepare to host the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang, it is a good time for the United States to recognize Korea's progress and wish them well. I hope all parties will be able to build on the friendship displayed at these Olympics to move toward a more peaceful future on the peninsula."

The resolution highlights South Korea's economic growth, democratic development, and increasing leadership in the international community. The text also reaffirms the strong bilateral relationship between the United States and South Korea, which is, "based on shared values, including democracy and human rights, economic prosperity, and mutual strategic interests."

The resolution concludes offering the House of Representatives' "best wishes and support for a successful Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang in 2018."

Text of the resolution is available online.
