Rep. Schneider Announces 2018 Congressional Art Competition Winners
Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) announced the winners of the 2018 Congressional Art Competition in Illinois’s Tenth District at a public reception at David Adler Music & Arts Center in Libertyville on the evening of Monday, April 23. Artwork on the theme of “Dreams” submitted from 55 students enrolled in 15 high schools across the district was displayed.
Winners were selected by a panel of three judges - Lori Nerheim, co-founder of the Waukegan Arts Council; Amy Amdur, founder of Amdur Productions; and Jena Mertz, coordinator at Adler Center – who judged entries blind (without seeing artists’ names or schools).
Taking first prize is Joselyn Duvon of Waukegan High School for a piece titled “Sueña para un mejor mañana.” As this year’s winner, Joselyn’s artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol with winning entries from congressional districts around the country for the next year. She will also receive two round-trip airline tickets courtesy of Southwest Airlines to Washington, DC and have the opportunity to attend the Congressional Art Competition award ceremony later this year.
In second place, Rachel Drobetskiy of Glenbrook North High School will display her work titled “Ethereal” in Congressman Schneider’s Lincolnshire office.
Third place winner Annika Sornson of Deerfield High School will display her work “Untitled” in Congressman Schneider’s Washington office.
