Village of Glencoe to Receive Great Lakes Restoration Initiative funding to improve infrastructure and reduce erosion

Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) announced that the Village of Glencoe has been awarded $50,000 to implement conservation programs to protect Lake Michigan. This funding has been awarded through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI), which promotes environmental stewardship and conservation programs that support the health of the Great Lakes.

"I applaud Glencoe's efforts to support the Great Lakes and commend their important work," said Schneider. "We must protect Lake Michigan – a regional treasure and economic asset – and this funding is an important part of that commitment."

"The Village is pleased to receive grant funding through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative program," said Village Manager Phil Kiraly. "The grant funding will be used on the Village's 2018 Storm Sewer Outfall Improvements at Aspen Lane, which are designed to greatly reduce the potential of soil eroding into Lake Michigan and ultimately improve water quality for all. Environmental sustainability is an important value in the Village's day-to-day operations, and we appreciate the opportunity to complete this project with the support of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative."

This award is funded through GLRI's Great Lakes Sediment and Nutrient Reduction Program, which funds projects by municipal governments and non-profit organizations to reduce harmful runoff in the Great Lakes watershed. Glencoe's project will work to reduce erosion, repair stormwater infrastructure, and combat invasive species.

Congressman Schneider has been a staunch advocate for GLRI and its continued funding.
