Rep. Schneider Announces Federal Grant for Zion Fire & Rescue Department
Today, U.S. Representative Brad Schneider (IL-10) announced the award of more than $483,000 in federal funds to the Zion Fire & Rescue Department to strengthen the ability of local firefighters to respond to fire and related hazards in the community.
The funds were awarded through the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grants program of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). These funds will help the Department increase or maintain the number of trained, "front line" firefighters available in the community, and thus help protect health and safety of both the public and emergency response personnel.
"Our firefighters and first responders daily answer the call and put their lives on the line on behalf of our communities," said Schneider. "We owe it to them to ensure their departments have the proper staffing, training, and resources they need to keep themselves and our neighborhoods safe. I applaud the Zion Fire & Rescue Department for their selection to receive this competitive federal grant, and I look forward to continuing to work with the Department to support the critical work of our local emergency response personnel."
