Rep. Schneider Hosts Child Tax Credit Monthly Payments Conversation with Gurnee Mother
Gurnee mother Bobbie Vergo says Child Tax Credit payments will provide safety net, peace of mind

GURNEE – Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) today hosted a Facebook Live conversation with Bobbie Vergo, a Tenth District mother from Gurnee, to discuss how the newly-expanded Child Tax Credit will benefit Tenth District families like Vergo's.
As part of the American Rescue Plan passed by Congress in March, hardworking families can expect advance monthly payments of the Child Tax Credit of up to $300 per month, per child, beginning July 15th. The credit is meant to offset increased childcare costs during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Child Tax Credit will lift 8,500 children in the Tenth District out of poverty and is expected to cut the national child poverty rate in half.
"The American Rescue Plan expanded the Child Tax Credit so that our families can recover and rebuild from the pandemic," said Schneider. "These payments, which will benefit a stunning 122,700 children in the Tenth District, will help families like Bobbie's cover expenses like food, childcare, diapers, healthcare, clothing and taxes. Poor, working, and middle class families will feel more secure and better able to deal with regularly-occurring expenses that have only become more burdensome with the spread of COVID-19. I was grateful to speak with Bobbie today to hear from her how the Child Tax Credit will help her and her husband care for their two children as we continue to build back from this virus."
"For my family, the [Child Tax Credit] is having that cushion and that wiggle room so I can go home and actually have time to love on my kids or put them with a childcare provider that is quality. Seeing our country step up our game to care for our families – I can't even tell you the impact that will have on child health and wellbeing. I'm so excited to see this direction that we're going in and I'm grateful to Congressman Schneider for supporting this," said Gurnee mother Bobbie Vergo.
