Rep. Schneider Lauds NY AG for Lawsuit Against NRA Over Non-Profit Status

August 6, 2020

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Schneider released the following statement following New York Attorney General Letitia James filing a lawsuit against the NRA:

"The Attorney General's lawsuit against the NRA reveals the fraud and ‘brazen illegality' of this purported ‘social welfare organization.' Mr. LaPierre has run this organization with the single-minded focus of corrupt private enrichment," said Schneider. "The organization's preferential tax-exempt status means that the taxpayers are effectively subsidizing the NRA's deceitful scheme. This is not only unfair to the thousands of law-abiding non-profit organizations and every hardworking taxpayer who has unwittingly funded the NRA Board's homes and hobbies. My hope is that this lawsuit will dissolve the NRA and prevent Mr. LaPierre and his fellow leadership from ever serving on another non-profit."

In February, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10), a member of the House Ways & Means Committee, released a report detailing self-dealing, corruption, and other actions by the National Rifle Association of America (NRA) that should jeopardize the organization's tax-exempt status.
