Rep. Schneider Statement on Omnibus Bill
Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the following statement following his vote for the omnibus government funding bill:
"Today's omnibus funding bill is not perfect, but by holding firm to our principles, Democrats were able to brunt many of the extreme and draconian cuts proposed by the Administration. The bill continues to fund the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, does not contain provisions defunding Planned Parenthood, reauthorizes the Conrad 30 visa waiver program, and contains no appropriation for President Trump's misguided, contemptible border wall. I am also pleased that the bill includes an increase in funding to the National Institutes of Health, additional resources to fight the opioid epidemic, and restores Pell Grants to year-round availability.
"Moving forward, my priorities remain constant: keeping our nation safe and getting our fiscal house in order while working towards a growing economy that raises the standard of living for working families; securing a better future for our children by investing in education and infrastructure; ensuring a healthy and clean environment; protecting our seniors by strengthening Social Security and Medicare; and finding a path to address the challenges of both health care and immigration that will bring our nation together rather than continue to divide us."
