Reps. Schneider and Dent Send Letter on Attacks Against Protestors Outside Turkish Embassy
Urge Secretary Tillerson to Condemn Attacks on Protestors by Turkish Security Detail
Today, Congressmen Brad Schneider (IL-10) and Charlie Dent (PA-15) sent a bipartisan letter to Secretary of State Tillerson expressing grave concern regarding the vicious attacks carried out by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's security detail against individuals engaged in peaceful, legal protests on American soil.
"The right to assemble and exercise free speech is enshrined in our Constitution, and last week's brutal assault on peaceful protesters by President Erdogan's security forces was a direct attack on that freedom" said Congressmen Schneider and Dent. "This thuggish, anti-democratic behavior has no place on American soil. We urge Secretary Tillerson to condemn the actions of President Erdogan's security personnel in the strongest possible terms and work in partnership with the D.C. police to hold those responsible to account."
