Area students will showcase their app submissions at award ceremony in Vernon Hills

Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) will announce the winner of Illinois's Tenth District's Congressional App Challenge at a ceremony in Vernon Hills this Wednesday, December 20. Participating high school students will showcase and demonstrate their apps at the event.

Now in its third year, the Congressional App Challenge is an annual nationwide competition that encourages students to learn and use science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills by coding their own application or "app" for any digital device.

Tenth District submissions were judged by Robert Sompolski, Dean of Mathematics, Engineering and Computer Science at Oakton Community College and Amy Torf, Executive Director, Noggin Builders.

The Congressional App Challenge was open to all high school students who either live or attend school in the Tenth District, regardless of skill level. Students could choose to participate individually or as part of a team of up to 4 students.

More information about the Congressional App Challenge is available online.

Note: Due to a schedule change by the House of Representatives, Congressman Schneider will be in Washington, DC for votes on the day of this event.
