Schneider Announces Committee Assignment, Returning to Ways and Means Committee

January 27, 2023

WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) announced that he has been appointed to the House Ways and Means Committee for the 118th Congress, his third term on the powerful committee, having been a member since the 116th Congress.

Schneider released the following statement:

“It is a great privilege to continue to serve the people of  Illinois’ Tenth District on the House Ways and Means Committee. I look forward to tackling many important issues this Congress, including growing our economy, ensuring tax fairness, repealing the onerous cap on the state and local tax (SALT) deduction, improving health care for all Americans, and strengthening Social Security and Medicare.

“Most immediately, the Ways and Means Committee will bear the grave responsibility of ensuring the United States does not default on its debt.  Our duties demand basic common sense and good faith, bipartisan governing. We must stand strong against the dangerous partisan gamesmanship that could well send the U.S. and global economies into crisis. There simply is no room for self-serving extremists who seemingly want to ignore our nation’s existing financial obligations, fail to pay for Social Security and Medicare, and destroy millions of jobs for their own irrational purposes.

“I want to thank House leadership and in particular Leader Jeffries for supporting me. I also want to thank Chairman Smith and Ranking Member Neal for welcoming me onto their committee. I’m ready to get to work.”
