SCHNEIDER ANNOUNCES GUEST FOR TRUMP ADDRESS TO CONGRESS
Rep. Schneider will be accompanied by Adam Mulvey of Spring Grove, a 20-year Army veteran who served several tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. Due to DOGE directives, Adam was terminated from a role at Lovell Federal Health Care Center on February 13.
WASHINGTON – Rep. Brad Schneider (IL-10) today announced Adam Mulvey as his guest to President Trump’s March 4th address to a Joint Session of Congress.
Adam Mulvey is an Army veteran who served our country for 20 years before retiring in 2019 with the rank of Sergeant 1st Class. He was deployed three times to Iraq, as well as one tour of duty in Afghanistan. Mulvey retired from military service in Washington state and then moved to Illinois where he lives with his wife Jessica and three children. Given his extensive experience, Adam was hired by Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago as an emergency management specialist, developing safety plans for the hospital for scenarios such as tornados or an active shooter. His work at Lovell serves approximately 35,000 veterans, every Navy recruit in basic training, as well as thousands of active-duty service members serving at Naval Station Great Lakes and their families
On February 13, 2025, in the middle of the night, and just a month shy of the end of his one-year probationary period, Adam received an email notifying him that his position at Lovell was being eliminated and his employment was immediately terminated. He was one of nearly 6,000 veterans who were fired between February 13 and 24 due to efforts by DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency.
“Adam Mulvey is a true American patriot who fought to protect our freedom for two decades,” said Rep. Schneider. “After his dedicated service, Adam devoted his career to protecting the lives of veterans and service members through his work at Lovell Federal Health Care Center. It is disgraceful that Elon Musk and a group of unelected, unvetted DOGE Bros are treating veterans like Adam with arrogant disrespect and utter disregard. Elon Musk’s arbitrary and capricious approach to what most Americans agree is important work to make our government more effective and efficient, is undermining many essential functions and leading to a major brain drain. This is particularly true at Lovell, the only health care facility in our region that serves thousands of veterans, as well as Navy recruits and service members at Naval Station Great Lakes.”
“It is an honor to have Adam accompany me, with his wife Jessica, to witness President Trump’s address to Congress,” continued Rep. Schneider. “I am hopeful that people across the country— upon seeing heroes like Adam who have devoted their lives to serve our nation and deserve the highest level of respect in return — will send a message to President Trump that the chaotic and clumsy efforts of Elon Musk and DOGE are not addressing inefficiencies in our government, and instead are draining crucial talent and ultimately making us less safe, less healthy, and less secure.”
“I am very concerned as both a veteran and a federal employee about what firings like the one I experienced will mean for health care providers like FHCC Lovell,” said Adam Mulvey. “Not only was I an employee, but I receive my own healthcare at FHCC Lovell, as do my wife and children. Thousands of veterans come there for excellent care -- I am concerned that a reduction in staff and a drastic budget cut will reduce the quality of care.”
“To be terminated and to then be told that my firing was due to performance is insulting – I, like the majority of the terminated civil servants, had received outstanding evaluations,” continued Mulvey. “I greatly appreciate Rep. Schneider for helping to put names and faces to these illegal terminations. Those let go from federal service are your neighbors, friends and relatives. They deserve better treatment from their government. I deserve better as well."
