Schneider Approves COVID Relief in Ways and Means Bill Markup

February 11, 2021

Passage Sets Stage for American Rescue Plan to Crush Pandemic

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressmen Brad Schneider (IL-10) capped a two-day markup by voting for Covid relief legislation that will become part of President Biden's American Rescue Plan. The Ways and Means Committee is responsible for directing nearly half of the $1.9 trillion package, including the parameters of the $1400 direct payments, extended unemployment insurance, the $3000 refundable child tax credit, assistance for nursing homes, resources to make child care more affordable for working families, and strengthening the Affordable Care Act.

"The President's American Rescue Plan will help tackle our dual public health and economic crises stemming from the pandemic. I've been working with my colleagues on the Ways and Means Committee over the last two days to ensure our portion of the package will meet the needs of struggling Americans and I am proud of the product we are sending to the full House. This legislation will speed up vaccine delivery, deliver direct $1400 checks, ensure access to child care for working families, help protect nursing home patients, and support the hardest-hit small businesses. The Ways and Means Committee's expeditious work on this bill means that we are one step closer to renewal and recovery, and responsibly avoiding a painful lapse in unemployment insurance," said Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10).
