Schneider Bills to Combat Iran Pass Foreign Affairs Markup, Ready for House Floor

October 19, 2023

WASHINGTON— Thursday, the House Foreign Affairs Committee approved three bills to combat Iran led or co-led by Congressmen Brad Schneider (IL-10). Schneider was the lead sponsor of H.Res. 599, urging the European Union to designate Hizballah in its entirety as a terrorist organization, which passed through the markup in a 47-0 vote.  Schneider was the co-lead on H.R. 2973, the MARITIME Act of 2023, which passed through the markup in a 42-0 vote. The MARITIME Act would
require the Defense Department, with the concurrence of the State Department, to develop a Middle East integrated maritime domain awareness and interdiction capability strategy to protect the people, infrastructure and territory of allies and partners in the Middle East from maritime threats posed by Iran, violent extremist organizations and criminal networks. Schneider was the co-lead on H.Res. 559, which states that it is U.S. policy that Iran must not be able to get a nuclear weapon under any circumstances or conditions and that the U.S. must use "all means necessary" to prevent this obtainment. H.Res. 559 passed committee markup 37-3.
