DEERFIELD, ILToday, Congressman Schneider joined the Illinois delegation in discuss the local impact of the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan the House passed last week.

Schneider discussed the plan's local benefits, including funding for Lake and Cook counties among $13.2 billion set aside for Illinois. Cook County will receive $1 billion and Lake County will receive $136 million in funding.

"The American Rescue Plan is an urgently needed bold response from Congress to beat back COVID-19, get people back to work, help parents safely send their children back to school, and help small businesses build back their future. To truly heal our economy and unite our nation, we must put President Biden's American Rescue Plan to work," said Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10). "The American Rescue Plan means that our local governments will not have to make cuts as a result of their doing everything they can to stop the spread of this deadly virus and start the distribution of vaccine shots. It means that our local heroes – our firefighters, police officers, EMTs, health care workers, and other public servants – will not have to worry about losing their jobs due to budget crises."

The American Rescue Plan will provide checks of $1,400 per person in direct assistance to households. The plan will also mount a national vaccination program that includes setting up community vaccination sites nationwide. It will scale up contact tracing and COVID-19 testing, address shortages of personal protective equipment and address health care disparities. President Biden's proposal will also provide support for small businesses by expanding PPP eligibility and targeting those owned by entrepreneurs from racial and ethnic backgrounds.
