Schneider Helps Release Action Plan to Fight Inflation and Cut Costs for Americans

June 10, 2022

WASHINGTON —Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10), along with the leaders of the New Democrat Coalition (New Dems) released a comprehensive action plan to fight inflation, lower the cost of living for Americans, and secure the long-term fiscal future of the nation. The pro-economic growth, pro-innovation New Dems released the 24-page plan, which examines the actions President Biden and Congressional Democrats have already taken to cut costs and outlines tangible steps federal policymakers can take to reduce prices on essential goods and services and provide relief to American families, workers, and businesses.

Also, on Wednesday, in a hearing before the House Ways & Means Committee, Schneider asked Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen about the problem of inflation and what Congress can do to get costs down. That video can be found here.

"With gas over $5 per gallon in Illinois and prices for food and housing rising, inflation is a very real problem. Global factors like pandemic lockdowns and Russia's invasion of Ukraine have created countless supply chain disruptions. Still, the United States is in a very strong position to tackle inflation. It's time for our economy to transition from rapid recovery to steady growth. I'm laser-focused on dealing with rising prices. This action plan outlines steps for Congress and the administration to fight inflation and cut costs for Americans," said Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10).

The plan can be found in full here. The plan's recommendations include:

  • Strengthen global supply chains
  • Get more people back to work
  • Suspend and reduce tariffs and other trade barriers
  • Lower energy prices and transition to a clean energy economy
  • Increase affordable housing
  • Lower the price of food
  • Reduce our of pocket costs for Americans
  • Invest in the long-term fiscal strength of our nation and families
