Schneider Highlights Federal Electric Vehicle Funding at Local EV Headquarters

March 4, 2022

LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. — Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) today highlighted federal funding for Illinois's electric vehicle charging network at EVBox, an electric vehicle supply equipment company in Libertyville. Illinois is expected to receive $149 million over five years to expand the state's EV charging network as part of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

"Local companies like EVBox are already helping make Illinois a leader in making affordable electric vehicles a reality. With the historic investment in electric vehicles from the bipartisan infrastructure law, Illinois will expand its EV charging network and reduce emissions while creating quality, well-paying jobs along the way," Schneider said.

During his visit Schneider toured the EVBox facilities and discussed how local companies like EVBox will benefit from historic federal funding for electric vehicles. EVBox has the capacity to manufacture roughly 200 charging stations every week in its initial phase. By 2023, their customers and partners will have helped install one million charging ports across the globe.

As part of the bipartisan infrastructure law, Illinois is expected to receive $149 million over five years to support the expansion of an EV charging network in the state. Illinois is also eligible for $2.5 billion in competitive EV charging grants under the infrastructure bill. Federal EV funding from the White House follows Illinois's recent move to put 1 million EVs on Illinois roads by 2030, as part of the state's Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) and the Reimagining Electric Vehicles (REV) Act.
