Schneider Priorities for Illinois Included in Minibus Appropriations: Fighting Covid and EtO

July 24, 2020

WASHINGTON– Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 7608, Minibus appropriations including spending bills for State-Foreign Operations, Agriculture-Rural Development-FDA, Interior-Environment, and Military Construction and Veterans Affairs. Several of Congressman Brad Schneider's priorities for Illinois were included in the package to be funded, including for FDA oversight over our medical device supply chain, for stronger ethylene oxide (EtO) monitoring, and for the Great Lakes Restoration initiative.

"This package of four Appropriations bills is a first step in creating supply chain resiliency amid an historic pandemic that has strained our supply of PPE. Drug and device shortages are, at this point, unacceptable and we need the FDA to prioritize these critical supply chains," said Schneider. "The package passed today will also fund critical Illinois priorities like protecting the Great Lakes and fighting EtO. I've fought hard to make sure we include funding for EPA monitoring to protect communities like Waukegan and Gurnee from cancer-causing EtO."
