SCHNEIDER STATEMENT ON 3 YEARS SINCE RUSSIA’S ILLEGAL INVASION OF UKRAINE

February 24, 2025

WASHINGTON – Rep. Brad Schneider (IL-10) issued to following statement marking three years since Russia’s illegal, unprovoked invasion of Ukraine:

“Three years ago today, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin launched his full-scale, unprovoked, and illegal invasion of Ukraine. The people of Ukraine, led by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, have stood resolute against this war of conquest, and I have been proud that under President Biden, the United States and the US Congress have stood with them.

For more than a century, it has been America's role, as leader of the free world, to stand against totalitarian aggression. We joined with the Allies for victory in World War I, defeated Adolf Hitler and the Nazis in World War II, and won the Cold War against the Soviets after that. Today we are again called on to stand up against Iran, Russia, China, and North Korea.

That's why I’m horrified to see President Trump and his unelected billionaire buddy Elon Musk bending the nation’s knee to Putin—not only regurgitating Kremlin lies about the start of the war but selling out Ukrainians, and US national security interests, for nothing in return.

I proudly join all who resolutely stand with the people of Ukraine on the side of independence and democracy. We must always defend democracy, uphold the independence of sovereign nations, and reject any attempt to illegally take territory of other nations by force.”
