Schneider Statement on Bipartisan Ocean Shipping Reform Act Becoming Law, Taking Aim at Inflation

June 17, 2022

Legislation will alleviate supply-chain and inflation issues at ports

WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) issued the following statement after the Ocean Shipping Reform Act was signed into law by President Biden yesterday. The bipartisan bill will enhance the authorities of the Federal Maritime Commission and increase transparency in order to alleviate supply-chain problems, ensure the swift flow of goods into and out of our ports, lower costs for American families, and bolster U.S. agricultural exports:

"Illinois families need relief from the high prices they are seeing every time they fill up their vehicle or pay their bills. This week, we took a step in the right direction by getting a bipartisan bill signed into law to address the supply-chain challenges that U.S. businesses have been struggling with as a result of the pandemic. We have a lot of work ahead of us if we are going to tackle inflation, but I believe that by working together on common sense, bipartisan bills like the Ocean Shipping Reform Act, we can cut costs for Americans."
