Schneider Statement on Coalition Strikes in Houthi-Controlled Areas in Yemen

January 12, 2024

WASHINGTON— Today, Congressmen Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the below statement on coalition strikes in Houthi-Controlled areas in Yemen. Schneider is member of the Foreign Affairs and Ways and Means Committees.

“Yesterday’s coalition action – led by the United States and United Kingdom, and supported by Australia, Bahrain, Canada, and the Netherlands – against Iranian-backed Houthi militant targets in Yemen was entirely necessary and appropriate. The defensive measures follow more than 25 unprovoked Houthi attacks against civilians intended to disrupt Red Sea merchant shipping.

“The U.S. and our allies must continue to take strong action, including enhanced defensive capabilities, economic sanctions, and diplomacy, to deter the Houthis’ malign activities and de-escalate threats to civilians and the regional and global economies. It is also important for the Biden Administration to continue its FTO designation review and to engage Congress as required by the War Powers Resolution and other statutes with respect to current and future authorities, actions, and goals.”
