Schneider Statement on Day One Executive Actions by President Biden
DEERFIELD, IL — Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the following statement:
"In his first actions as President of the United States, President Joe Biden is taking historic and life-saving steps to heal our nation, in a sure sign of America's renewed sense of momentum and unity.
"For the last ten months, America has lost critical time in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic. I was a vocal critic of President Trump's casual attitude toward our nation's health and a fierce advocate for strategic planning and focused action. On day one of the new Administration, we are learning the power the Presidency has to heal the nation when the President chooses to do so. President Biden's launch of a ‘100 Days Masking Challenge' is a critical public health milestone. His empathy and dedication to support working families is felt in his decision to extend both the eviction and foreclosure moratoriums and extend the pause on student loan payments to provide economic relief. The Biden Presidency will mark a turning point in our battle against this virus.
"For three years, I have led the resolution in the House condemning the Trump White House for withdrawing from the Paris Climate Accord. Today, I am thrilled to see that President Biden is not only turning back President Trump's damage to the environment, but is also moving America forward in fighting climate change. We have long had a moral responsibility to act on climate change, and, while rejoining the Paris Climate Accord is a critical first step, I look forward to doing more to make sure that our children and grandchildren inherit an Earth worth living on."
