Schneider Statement on Difficulties Applying for Small Business Assistance

April 27, 2020

Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10), a member of the House Small Business Committee, released the following statement:

"Our small businesses are hanging on by a thread, and the Trump Administration's failings are preventing them from getting relief.

"I am hearing feedback today from small businesses who can't access the Small Business Administration's (SBA's) Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) application as well as community lenders who cannot submit their clients' completed Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) applications to the SBA.

"Business owners and lenders are frustrated because these issues were easily foreseeable after the experience of the first round of funding, and I raised them directly with SBA Administrator Carranza on a call last week. It is critical the Administration quickly and competently resolve these problems to get the loans to small businesses in need.

"I have also heard from too many small businesses that have received PPP funding but are terrified to use it because they are worried they will forfeit the loan's eligibility for forgiveness. It is important for the Administration to promptly issue clear and definitive guidance for these businesses."
