Schneider Statement on Extreme Rules of New Congress

WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10), Vice-Chair for Communications of the New Democrat Coalition, released the following statement:

“With his secret backroom dealings, Speaker McCarthy has created a Speaker in name only. As his Republican colleague Matt Gaetz put it, this rules package puts Speaker McCarthy in a straightjacket. Instead of a governing coalition led by common sense Republicans, we have Jim Jordan and his gang of the most extreme Republicans in charge. Until the Speaker reveals the ‘top-secret’ three-page document governing his speakership — an agreement that not even other Republicans have reviewed — Americans cannot know what he has promised or given away. I opposed the rules package today because the American people deserve transparency from their representatives, not a sham platform and Jim Jordan’s kangaroo court.”
