Schneider Statement on Failure of Hard-line House Immigration Bill
Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10), a member of the House Judiciary Committee, released the below statement following the failure by a vote of 193-231 of H.R. 4760, the Securing America’s Future Act, introduced by Rep. Bob Goodlatte (VA-06):
“The extreme Goodlatte bill is full of hard-line measures that neither reflect our country’s character as a nation of immigrants nor make our country stronger. It fails to permanently protect DREAMers, slashes legal immigration limits, and prevents U.S. citizens from sponsoring parents, adult children, and siblings. I was pleased to see it rejected by the House.
“Today is yet more proof that the partisan approach is the wrong way to fix our nation’s immigration system. There are bipartisan immigration solutions available that can pass the House, including the USA Act which pairs a solution for DREAMers with smart investments in border security. I once again urge Speaker Ryan to allow immediately a vote on this bill. It’s time to put country ahead of party.”
