Schneider Statement on Government Shutdown
Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the following statement:
“The American people deserve better. There are bipartisan solutions available to get our country out of this mess: proposals that fund our military and government for the long-term while also tackling pressing priorities, from funding the Children’s Health Insurance Program and Community Health Centers to protecting DREAMers to providing disaster relief.
“Rather than continuing to try to go it alone, I urge President Trump and congressional leaders to negotiate in good faith to end this self-created crisis as soon as possible. I remain committed to working across the aisle to find a solution.”
Schneider announced he will return his salary to the U.S. Treasury for the duration of a federal government shutdown. He is also a co-sponsor of H.R. 1794, the Hold Congress Accountable Act, which would ensure Members of Congress are not paid during a government shutdown.
