Schneider Statement on Hispanic Heritage Month

September 15, 2022

WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the following statement celebrating the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15th through October 15th:

"Today marks the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrating achievements and contributions that Latinos have made throughout our nation's history. Illinois's Tenth District is home to many vibrant Hispanic communities with diverse heritage and traditions, each contributing to our region's culture, economy, and vitality.

"Throughout my life I've been blessed with wonderful Hispanic teachers, coworkers, and now extraordinary colleagues in Congress. In Congress, I'm working to advance legislation to strengthen our communities, educate our children, support our small businesses, and improve the lives of all the people I represent. I know these are the issues central to our Hispanic communities.

"I am also working to fix our broken immigration system, protect our nation's DREAMers, and fight against all forms of discrimination. Last year, we passed the American Dream and Promise Act of 2021, which would create a pathway for DREAMers to remain in the only country they've ever known: America. I will ensure we follow through on our responsibility to protect them.

"Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to renew our commitment to honoring the invaluable ways Latinos have contributed to America. We must work towards a strong, more inclusive, and prosperous society for all."
