SCHNEIDER STATEMENT ON PROPOSED CEASEFIRE DEAL

May 31, 2024

LINCOLNSHIRE, IL—Rep. Brad Schneider (IL-10), member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and co-chair of the bicameral, bipartisan Abraham Accords, released the following statement in response to a new ceasefire proposal from Israel:

“We all want the war in Gaza to end.

“Israel has again provided Hamas a ceasefire proposal, brokered by the U.S., Qatar and Egypt. As President Biden has said, Hamas should accept this deal. We need to bring all the hostages, including 8 Americans, home. We need to give the citizens of Gaza relief and hope for the future for their children.

“All good people and just nations who want to end this war, relieve the suffering of the innocent and offer the chance for security and prosperity to the region must now put unrelenting pressure on Hamas to accept this deal. Hamas has the power to release the hostages and allow for civilians in Gaza to receive the humanitarian assistance they desperately need and the future they rightly deserve.

“A lasting ceasefire and durable end to hostilities is within reach. I’m hopeful we can soon look toward what a better day after the war looks like. I am committed to working with my colleagues in Congress, on both sides of the aisle, to support the rebuilding of Gaza and reach a real and sustainable peace for the region.”
