Schneider Statement on the Second Anniversary of the January 6th Insurrection on the Capitol and Congress’s Resolve to Maintain the Peaceful Transition of Power
WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the following statement:
“Two years after January 6th, America’s democracy remains under attack. On this date two years ago, Congress came under attack by domestic terrorists hellbent on upending our Congressional order. The January 6th Committee demonstrated with stunning clarity how President Trump was directly responsible for the chaos and bloodshed that day. As recently as last month, he called for the ‘termination’ of the Constitution. Emboldened extremists continue to seek ways to circumvent our electoral system and undermine the faith Americans have in our government.
“If we want to fight back against these efforts, we must continue to learn the lessons of that day. We must never forget the findings and stark warnings of the January 6th Committee, nor can we forget Congress’s resolve to defend the Constitution and maintain the peaceful transition of power. Two years ago, Members of Congress chose to do the seemingly impossible and come together despite the violence to execute our jobs as outlined in our governing document. And I will forever be grateful for the service and sacrifice of the law enforcement officers who protected us that day.”
