SCHNEIDER STATEMENT ON SUSPICIOUS MAIL IN LINCOLNSHIRE OFFICE
LINCOLNSHIRE, IL - Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the following statement after his Lincolnshire office received one of many suspicious letters sent to Congressional offices across the country.
"Yesterday, we saw the first reports of threatening mail with suspicious substances being sent to Congressional offices in the U. S. Capitol and across the country. Today, more offices, including mine, received these letters. Following protocol, we open all mail under a mail hood. Upon reviewing the threatening letter, we contacted the U.S. Capitol Police followed by the Lincolnshire Police Department. Lincolnshire Police and Fire, including a hazmat team, came to the office with specialized equipment from Lake Forest. They tested the letter and confirmed it did not contain any harmful substances. The space was deemed ‘all clear’ after a couple of hours. I am very grateful for the swift response of local law enforcement and fire department personnel and thankful that my team and the building is safe."
"The FBI is leading the investigations of these mailings nationwide. It is imperative that they follow all leads to apprehend and prosecute those responsible."
"Anyone or any group who thinks they can scare or intimidate Members of Congress or our teams from doing our job and work on behalf of the people we represent is sorely mistaken."
