Schneider Transportation Projects Included in First Round of Funding Process
All Five Projects included in INVEST in America Act
WASHINGTON – Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) today announced his Member Designated Project (MDP) submissions were included in the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's surface transportation funding bill. The Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation in America Act (INVEST in America Act) will fund significant American surface transportation and include all five projects submitted for funding by Congressman Schneider.
The INVEST in America Act, as introduced, included $508,080 for North Chicago Pace Route Access, $920,320 for Zion's 27th Street Resurfacing, $9,794,640 for Lake County's Patriot Path, $12,000,000 for Metra's Zero Emission Vehicle Pilot, and $2,000,000 for IL-21 Milwaukee Ave improvements. These funding levels matched the funding levels as initially requested. Funding for the Metra project represents $6,000,000 requested by Congressman Schneider added to request from other House Members.
"I am pleased that the Transportation Committee has recognized these local Illinois transportation projects as worthy investment priorities for their funding bill. I will continue to work to advocate for each of these projects as the legislation moves through Congress and is updated," said Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10). "The INVEST in America Act will bring quality, good-paying jobs to Illinois while at the same time addressing the existential threat of climate change affecting our nation and our world. It's a win-win, and a critically important step in preparing for a larger infrastructure package that will move America forward.
The INVEST in America Act is comprehensive surface transportation legislation that would modernize our roads, bridges, transit, rail and more. The transformational bill would move our country away from the status quo and would lay the groundwork for an infrastructure package for the modern era.
Modern infrastructure means creating millions of good-paying jobs that rebuild the middle class and make our country more competitive in the global economy, combating the climate crisis by cutting carbon pollution from the transportation sector, and addressing long-standing inequities in communities around the country with investments that make cities and towns safer and more connected.
