Schneider Votes for Additional Aid for Ukraine Against Russia

May 11, 2022

WASHINGTON — Yesterday, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) voted for supplemental funding to support the Ukrainian people. The bill would enhance America's robust support for Ukraine against an unprovoked assault from Russia. Yesterday's vote follows the enactment of the Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act, which is streamlining the shipment of weapons systems, ammunition and other equipment to Ukraine. On a strongly bipartisan basis, the Congress has also taken several key steps to punish and isolate Russia, including the suspension of permanent normal trade relations, the reauthorization of the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act and a ban on the import of Russian oil and energy products. Additionally, the House has advanced the Asset Seizure for Ukraine Reconstruction Act and the Ukraine War Crimes Act.

Congressman Schneider said, "When we see war crimes and acts of genocide by Russia and Vladimir Putin, America must act. The stakes couldn't be higher: in Ukraine, the world is literally fighting for the future of democracy. If Ukraine can defeat Russia and Putin, citizens of Ukraine and neighboring states will once again feel safe in their homes. But if Russia were to conquer Ukraine, the challenges the world faces not only from Russia, but also from China and Iran will only increase. Today, Congress took another critical step in this effort by funding critically needed resources, including military aid, support for the Ukrainian economy, and humanitarian assistance for food security to address the worldwide hunger crisis stemming from Putin's invasion."
