Schneider Votes to End Government Shutdown
Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the following statement:
"This shutdown was an unnecessary, self-created crisis driven by an unwillingness to negotiate and compromise. But Congress's continued reliance on short-term fixes to fund our government is equally irresponsible, harming our military's ability to effectively plan for the long-term and sowing costly uncertainty across federal agencies.
"Today I voted for a bill to reopen the government, based on a commitment for good-faith negotiations to address our nation's funding needs. I was also pleased to fund the vital Children's Health Insurance Program for six years and suspend the medical device tax.
"Now, Congress needs to use these next three weeks to swiftly reach a responsible year-long funding bill and address other urgent priorities, including supporting Community Health Centers, protecting the DREAMers in our communities, and passing disaster relief. I remain committed to working across the aisle to achieve that solution."
