Schneider Wishes Illinois a Happy, Safe Thanksgiving

November 23, 2020

DEERFIELD, IL – Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the following statement in anticipation of a Thanksgiving amid a nationwide, spiking pandemic:

"In spite of the unprecedented burdens of the COVID pandemic, there are still many blessings around us. Let us give thanks to those working on the front lines—the health care workers in hospitals, clinics and nursing homes; the line workers keeping our grocery shelves and warehouses stocked with staples; the police, fire fighters and public works employees keeping us safe in our homes; the teachers, administrators and staff working to keep our kids learning throughout this crisis. Let us be grateful for the scientists, researchers and doctors who have worked tirelessly to bring forth not one, but several vaccine candidates. And for the friends, neighbors and even strangers looking in on those living alone or not able to fully fend for themselves.

"There is a light at the end of this long, dark tunnel. But we are not yet through the danger. To make sure we can all enjoy the better days ahead, please take extra care in staying safe this holiday. The Illinois Department of Public Health and the CDC have asked us to stay home to prevent a dire worsening of this nationwide pandemic that has already killed more than 257,000 Americans. I am echoing their call. For the health our families and our neighbors, please make the short-term sacrifices necessary this holiday season so we can all celebrate future Thanksgivings together.

"I will be celebrating Thanksgiving virtually with family across the country. While we won't be able to gather in person, or serve Thanksgiving meals to sailors at Naval Station Great Lakes, like we've done in past years, this year my wife Julie and I are thankful that we will get to be with our oldest son Adam, who just returned home after more than four years in active duty with the U.S. Navy. And Daniel, though far away, like the rest of our family, will be on our screen and in our hearts.

"From my family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving"
