Statement on Committee Passage of Schneider Resolution Supporting Two-State Solution and Opposing Global BDS Movement

July 18, 2019

Congressman Brad Schneider released the below statement following this week's markup and committee passage of H.Res 246 by the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Schneider is the lead sponsor of this bipartisan resolution supporting a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and opposing the Global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement, which was introduced in March 2019. The resolution currently has more than 340 co-sponsors.

"The Global BDS Movement, by delegitimizing and denying the Jewish people's right to a state, is antithetical to a two-state solution and to achieving peace between the Israelis and Palestinians. I am deeply proud that more than three-quarters of my House colleagues, with overwhelming majorities of both parties, have co-sponsored my resolution making clear that Congress supports a strong US-Israel relationship, is committed to achieving a negotiated two-state solution, and forcefully condemns the Global BDS Movement. We must all unite in pursuit of a just resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, ensuring a secure Jewish and democratic Israel living side-by-side a future Palestinian state in peace and prosperity.

"I appreciate the support of the members on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and in particular the leadership of Chairman Engel. I look forward to working with all my colleagues to continue to build support for the resolution and secure swift passage on the House floor."
