Statement on Inauguration of President Donald Trump
Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the following statement:
"Today, Donald Trump was inaugurated as our 45th President. Despite my deep disagreements with his agenda and campaign, I attended the inauguration out of respect for the office and a responsibility to witness the peaceful transition of power.
"Our work begins anew. The Tenth District sent a clear message about our priorities on election night: building an economy that works for everyone, ensuring quality health care and education regardless of zip code, and embracing our country's diversity.
"President Trump does not enter office with a blank slate from me. He campaigned on division and fear. He has charted an agenda that rewards those at the top at expense of working families, threatens to deny millions health insurance, attacks a woman's right to choose, and ignores the science on climate change.
"On these and other issues where he seeks to wipe back the progress of the last eight years, I will oppose him every step of the way. As your voice in Washington, I promise to be diligent in fighting for our shared values with grit and determination that seeks to equal the trust you have placed in me as your Representative."
