Statement on New CBO Score of American Health Care Act

May 24, 2017

Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the following statement:

"Today we learned why supporters of this ill-considered repeal bill were desperate to rush a vote before hearing from the CBO: they knew the answer would be disastrous for American families.

"The non-partisan CBO confirmed the ‘revised' bill still leaves 23 million more Americans without health insurance, increases out-of-pocket costs, especially for people approaching retirement age, and allows insurance companies to price out those with pre-existing conditions from affordable coverage.

"This bill, like its earlier version, continues to be the wrong approach to health care reform. Instead, we should be working together to build on the progress of the ACA and fixing what isn't working, not taking our country backwards through reckless repeal."
