Statement on President Trump’s Budget Request

Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the following statement:

"President Trump's draconian budget proposal is incredibly short-sighted, irresponsibly cutting important programs that promote economic opportunities, strengthen our communities, and provide critical safety nets, while offering no plan to put our country on the path to future growth and success.

"Federal funds spent on education, medical research, and the environment are true investments in our future, and slashing these programs undermines the opportunity and health of our next generation.

"This budget also pulls the rug out from underneath the neediest Americans, further cutting Medicaid, nutrition assistance, and Social Security Disability Insurance at a time when millions of seniors and other working families are struggling to make ends meet.

"I urge my colleagues in Congress to reject this budget, and instead work together to chart a fiscally-responsible path that continues to invest in our future."
